PETALING JAYA: Bestinet Sdn Bhd, the pioneer of an end-to-end platform for the management of foreign workers in Malaysia is relieved that the Human Resources Ministry has cleared it of any wrongdoing.
The company said it welcomed the decision of Minister M. Kulasegaran to exonerate the company, which was previously accused of money laundering and exploiting of foreign workers.
Kulasegaran told the Parliament on Thursday that the allegations he made against Bestinet last year were inaccurate and there was no basis for it.
“Actually, I made several allegations against Bestinet, a company that handles the recruitment of foreign workers but the allegations were related to money laundering and exploitation of workers.
“After investigations were carried out, it seems like there is no basis. So the allegations were inaccurate,” he said.
Kulasegaran was responding to an additional question by Lanang MP Alice Lau who asked about the status of the allegations against Bestinet.
Bestinet chief executive officer Ismail Mohd Noor (pic) expressed the company’s sincere appreciation for the minister’s upright decision.
He said this clears Bestinet of any wrong-doing and this endorses the hard work the company has put in to build a well functioning foreign worker system and puts the company on a strong footing to grow on the success it has achieved so far.
“We wish to reiterate that Bestinet has always worked hard to provide value to the government as our stakeholder and the thousands of foreign workers who we have served to the best of our abilities.
“We have painstakingly built and implemented the Foreign Worker Centralised Management System (FWCMS) in Malaysia, which has made the recruitment and management of foreign workers more efficient and transparent,” Ismail told StarBiz in a statement.
He added that FWCMS is an end-to-end platform that connects all stakeholders in migrant workers management such as employers, recruitment agents in Malaysia and source countries, governments and medical centres.
The four main elements of the platform are security, health, compliance and welfare. The company particularly handles the IT platform for the medical screening of the prospective workers.
In 2013, Bestinet was given the mandate by the government to implement FWCMS as a proof of concept, without any investment from the government.
By 2015, the system had managed to eliminate impersonation, paperwork, forgery, corruption and shortened waiting time in the processing of foreign worker applications.
In 2017, FWCMS bagged international recognition when it won an award in the United Nations-based World Summit Awards under the Government and Citizen Engagement category.
In July, Bestinet won the “Technology Case Study of the Year” award at the SBR Asian Business Case Studies Awards 2019 in Singapore.Ismail said the company has made inroads into expanding its solutions worldwide, which is the company’s plans over the next few years.
It was previously reported that Bestinet had engaged governments of countries in the Middle East, South Asia and Europe to have the FWCMS implemented in their countries as receiving countries.
Earlier this year, the courts in Nepal also exonerated Bestinet of any wrongdoing.
